How much to spend for a logo in India ?
Introduction
So, this is the most commonly asked question to all freelancer logo designers or logo design agencies in India. Clients always ask why you charge whatever you charge. So today I’m going to discuss the cost of a logo design for businesses.
This is very subjective. There are logo designers in India who charge a couple of thousand rupees, like 5,000, 10,000. And then there are logo designers or logo design agencies in India who charge lakhs of rupees for a logo.
Now, how is this cost decided? How much is the right amount for a logo design?
Factors That Decide Logo Design Cost
To answer this, let’s understand how this cost should be decided. There are a couple of factors the cost of logo design comes from. For a logo design agency in India, the cost is different, and for an individual logo designer, the cost is different.
So, Pricing is subjective to the overall experience of the logo designer, and the relevant experience in the industry he is going to design the logo for. And the process – the understanding of logo design principles, design concepts, and all of that.
The same goes for agencies. The cost of logo design for agencies may vary based on overall experience and experience in a specific industry where the logo is being designed or where the business is coming from. So those factors, and also the process.
Basic Logo Design Process
Now, for example, there is a logo designer with 3–4 years of experience, designing logos for small businesses. His process is very short. What he does is, he understands the requirements, asks questions like what type of logo you need, the colours, any specific font you want to use, those standard questions-and then he starts designing. He provides 3–4 options, and after feedback from the client, he makes changes, shares more options, and then submits the design.
Advanced Logo Design Process
Then there is another designer who has a more detailed process. Or a logo design or banding agency with a very strong, constructive, and thoughtful design process. And they have a different set of questions.
They try to understand more about the brand—understanding the brand essence, the values, the offerings, and the purpose of starting the business. They also understand consumer behaviour, define a user persona, explore different applications of the logo, different use cases, industry discovery, competitive analysis—all of that.
Not just the standard questions like colour, typography, or style, but beyond that, they try to understand the core brand identity. So in that case, they go deeper. They are more likely to provide better value, better outcomes, and more personalised concepts. So these things make the difference, and that’s where the cost is decided.
Why Pricing Varies
In the second case, the cost is going to be higher compared to the first case, where there is a very short 2–3 step process.
Logo Design Pricing in India
So in India, logo design pricing starts from around 5,000 and can go up to lakhs.
People who follow a very short process, with 2–3 days of effort, can charge 5,000 to 20,000 rupees based on experience, knowledge, and communication.
Agencies usually start from INR 20,000 and go up to lakhs when they have strong processes. So that’s the overall costing structure designers and agencies follow, and it’s quite standard in the industry.
Who Should You Choose?
Now, who should you choose?
It all depends on how you are starting, what you are building, how serious you are, and how much you are willing to spend on branding.
Talking About Budget
And I think it’s okay to have clear conversations with agencies or designers about pricing and budget. It’s not an issue. People often get offended when agencies ask about the budget, but that’s not the intention of logo agencies in India like us.
They are not trying to figure out what you have in your pocket and take it out. That’s not the case at least for branding agency like Creative Orion. The idea behind asking the budget is to understand how much value can be delivered within that budget. I think it’s okay to discuss these things upfront. Especially in India, people feel offended when asked about budget, but that mindset needs to change.
Sometimes clients are upfront. They clearly say, this is my budget and this is what I want to spend. That’s the cap I have for branding. And I have different deliverables, so for logo, this is the amount I have.
Final Decision
So considering all these things, you can take your call. Based on your budget, you can choose. If you have a lower budget, you can go with a designer who fits that range. But if you have the budget, focus on hiring a good branding agency with strong understanding, reputation, and process. All these considerations will help you decide the right logo designer or logo design agency for your next project.
